  Cantando
[pronounced can - TAN - doh an Italian word which means "singing"]

Cantando is our ensemble for experienced singers ages 15 to 18 years of age. This ensemble made its debut in the 2002-2003 season. In weekly rehearsals, these advanced singers are challenged to new heights of musical sophistication through the study of high quality repertoire. Performance opportunities within the community and tours are an important enrichment to the training these advanced singers receive.

Cantando now offers experiences for guys with changed voices, gals singing advanced treble literature, and both joining together to explore the mixed choral repertoire.

Cantando's participation in competition has been an overwhelming success.  At the Alberta Provincial Choir Festival, they were awarded Second Prize in the National Stream (19 & under) and First Prize in the Provincial Stream (16 & under).  At the Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival, they have received numerous awards, scholarships and medals. Cantando also received a Gold Superior Rating at Choralfest (sponsored by the Alberta Choral Federation).

As our most senior singers, one of Cantando's most important roles is to serve as mentors for our younger singers.

Cantando has been featured in performances at prestigious events throughout the province including those for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II visit to Alberta in 2005; the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Mother's Day luncheon; Calgary Opera's Impressario Dinner; Foster's Garden Chapel Candlelight Memorial; and, the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer Choir.

Members of Cantando were also featured as soloists as the Three Spirits in Calgary Opera's production of the Magic Flute.

Cantando regularly performs and tours with our ensemble Cantaré (the combined ensembles known as "Cantidad").
