  Cantando
[pronounced can - TAN - doh an Italian word which means "singing"]

Cantando is our ensemble for experienced singers ages 15 to 19 years of age. This ensemble made its debut in the 2002-2003 season. In weekly rehearsals, these advanced singers are challenged to new heights of musical sophistication through the study of high quality repertoire. Performance opportunities within the community and tours are an important enrichment to the training these advanced singers receive.

In 2008-2009, Cantando will offer experiences for guys with changed voices, gals singing advanced treble literature, and both joining together to explore the mixed choral repertoire.

Cantando's participation at the Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival, was an overwhelming success as they won several awards and medals and were chosen to represent Calgary at the Alberta Provincial Choral Festival. They were awarded Second Prize in the Provincial / National stream. They also received a Gold Superior Rating at Choralfest [sponsored by the Alberta Choral Federation].

In December 2002 they were featured in a special concert with the choir of the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer. In June 2003, Cantando joined Cantaré as together they traveled to Southern Ontario where they impressed audiences everywhere with their exuberant and expressive singing. They participated in the Niagara International Music Festival and worked with internationally acclaimed guest conductor, Jonathan Willcocks from England. In March 2004, Cantando traveled to San Francisco to perform at the National Conference of the Organization of American Kodaly Educators. Their performance and participation in the lecture / demonstration session received a thunderous ovation.

As part of an exchange with the Bach Children's Chorus in Toronto in February 2004, Cantando also participated in the Mississauga Children's Choir Festival with guest conductor Simon Carrington.
