  Cantaré
[pronounced can - TAH - ray an Spanish word which means "I will sing"]

Cantaré is the main performance and touring ensemble of our program for boys and girls ages 11 to 14. Singers are challenged to new heights of musical sophistication through the study of high quality repertoire in unison and two / three / four part harmony. Performance opportunities within the community and tours are an important enrichment to the training these advanced singers receive.

This season Cantaré will be featured in Festival Chorus’ performance of Missa Gaia (Earth Mass). Select choristers will also participate in Calgary Opera’s production of Tosca.

In July 2007 Cantaré traveled to Vancouver for the Coastal Sound International Choral Festival. A highlight of the tour was the opportunity to sing for Sunday worship at Christ Church Cathedral with Musical Director and Composer, Rupert Lang. Cantaré traveled to Italy in 2006, presenting concerts in historic venues throughout the country, including Sunday Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican. An invitation to serve as artist choir at the Choral Music Experience Institute with Dr. Doreen Rao took the choir to Toronto in 2005. The choir received the highest accolades for their superb performances, musical expertise and leadership, strong work ethic and exceptional deportment. Previous tours have taken the choir to Southern Ontario, Oregon, and Ottawa. Cantaré was first catapulted onto the international stage with their tour to Ireland in 2002.

Cantaré is often invited to perform at the prestigious music gatherings such as the National Conference of the Organization of American Kodaly Educators in San Francisco. They have also performed for the Alberta Choral Federation, Kodaly Society of Canada, the Alberta Kodaly Society of Canada, The Alberta Kodaly Association and have been invited to perform at Podium, the National conference of the Association of Canadian Choral conductors.

In the past, Cantaré has performed with Calgary Opera’s productions of Sweeny Todd, Hansel and Gretal, Susannah and Filumena; Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra Classics Series and Discovery Series; Festival Chorus productions of St. Nicolas and Joshua, Calgary Concert Band; Alberta Choralfest Spotlight Concert; University of Lethbridge Singers; Chefs for UNICEF Gala; Banff International Television Festival Awards Ceremony; Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Gala; Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival Grand Concert, Bob Carlisle and Orchestra; Bishop Grandin High School and the Calgary Bach Society.
