  Cantiga
[pronounced can - TEE - gah a Spanish word which means "song"]

This ensemble is intended for boys and girls who are 8 to 10 years of age, have mastered the basic skills of musicianship / choral singing and who wish to continue their musical growth through the study of both unison and two part song repertoire. The children appreciate the child-centered approach offered. They further their development and enhance their growth as artists through performance opportunities.

Cantiga received high praise and accolades in competition. In 2003 and 2002, Cantiga was awarded Second Prize at the National Music Festival. This ensemble has been a finalist at the National Music Festival for each of the last eight years in the 10 & under age category.

Rehearsals:
Tuesday's from 6:45 PM to 8:30 PM

Cantiga has also earned First Prize at the Alberta Provincial Choir Festival for many years. Cantiga has won numerous awards, medals and scholarships at the Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival and has earned a Gold Superior Rating at Choralfest [sponsored by the Alberta Choral Federation] since 1998.

In past seasons, Cantiga has performed in Calgary Opera's productions of Tosca, The Ballad of Baby Doe, Carmen, Dead Man Walking, Turandot, Sweeney Todd, La Bohème and Filumena and their "Dinner on the Set" Gala. Cantiga has twice been featured as guest artists of the Calgary Bach Society. Our popular School Concert Tours provide our young singers with the opportunity to share their love of singing with Calgary school children.

In 2006, Cantiga joined Cantaré and Cantando in a special performance with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra as part of their Discovery Series.  In 2005, Cantiga was the featured guest artists of Copus Christi Male Chorus.

Cantiga's annual tours provide the opportunity for our choristers to share their joy of singing in schools, senior's residences, churches and performance venues throughout Alberta.  It also allows our choristers to explore and learn about historic and cultural sites throughout our province.
