  Collaborations

As a member of the Calgary cultural community, we have established relationships with several local arts organizations. While the benefits are many, the most important advantage is the sharing of experiences. Performing with others widens the learning on many levels and expands the possibilities for everyone.

Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra
The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra is widely recognized as one of Canada’s finest orchestras. It has been an integral part of our vibrant community for over fifty years. Cantaré is thrilled to be offered the opportunity to join forces with both the orchestra and the CPO Chorus to present major choral / orchestral works. In addition, Cantaré has been featured as the guest artists in a variety of concerts from the Treble Choir / Orchestral repertoire, including:

Beethoven's 9th Symphony during the Beethoven Festival (November 2008);

Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings Symphony (October 2008);

Classics Series: John Adams On the Transmigration of the Souls and Beethoven's 9th Symphony (May 2007);

Discovery Series: The Poet Sings (October 2006) (Treble repertoire);

A Traditional Christmas (December 2005) (Christmas treble repertoire).

Calgary Opera
Cantaré Children’s Choir has enjoyed a long and rewarding association with Calgary Opera. Our collaboration has been a huge benefit to both organizaitons. We provide prepared, attentive and focused boys and girls of varying ages who are excellent musicians; we, in turn, are welcomed into a professional organization that gives us the opportunity to share our singing (and acting) skills in an exhilarating environment (costumes/sets/props) while learning about the operatic art form and the music and stories of the great operas. In addition, all choristers in our program have the opportunity to attend the Dress Rehearsal for Calgary Opera productions. We have participated as performers in the following operas:

Tosca (April 2008);

The Ballad of Baby Doe (January 2008);

Carmen (April 2007);

Magic Flute (April 2006);

Dead Man Walking (January 2006);

Turandot (November 2005);

Sweeney Todd (January 2004);

Filumena ( World Premiere - January 2003);

Hansel and Gretel (November 2002);

La Bohème (March 2002);
Susannah (January 2001).

Festival Chorus
Festival Chorus has been Calgary’s acclaimed community chorus for nearly fifty years. Under the direction of Mel Kirby since 1991, the Chorus has expanded its offering of the classical oratorio repertoire to include a burgeoning interest in performing world music from other cultures. Cantaré is delighted to have joined Festival Chorus for three productions:

Missa Gaia (2008)
St. Nicholas (2004)
Joshua (2004)

Calgary Civic Symphony

Formed in 1975 and boasting 80 members, the Calgary Civic Symphony is Calgary's community orchestra.  Under the direction of Rolf Bertsch, the Civic presents five concerts each season.  Cantaré is thrilled to have joined the Civic for "Songs of the Season" in December 2008 and for Beethoven's 9th Symphony (November 2009).
