Our Performers

Cathedral Church of the Redeemer Choir

Tim Woodward, Director of Music Ministry

Music is vital to worship at the Cathedral. Many notable musicians have been associated with the Cathedral including Gerald Bales, Robert Hunter Bell, Terrence Fullerton, Tim Pyper, and Neil Cockburn, and each has ensured the excellence of the music making. This tradition continues today: everyone involved in the musical life of the Cathedral is committed to offering traditional church music while maintaining as a high a standard as possible.

The Choir of the Cathedral offers an intensive and fulfilling choral experience, singing a wide variety of repertoire over the choral term and being an integral part of the worship life of the Cathedral. Over the years, the Cathedral Choir has made many tours to sing in UK cathedrals, most recently in 2019 to Salisbury Cathedral, and Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin.

Cantando

Graeme Climie, Conductor

Cantando (Spanish: “Singing”) is a NEW auditioned ensemble for experienced young adult singers (ages 18~40) beginning the next stage of their singing lives under the direction of Graeme Climie. The new ensemble focuses on creating a space where skilled developing choral singers can pursue growth and musical excellence in a trusting and vulnerable environment with their peers. We will explore a wide variety of new challenges in both contemporary and historic musical contexts, allowing the group to reflect on, and speak to, the experiences of young adulthood in YYC. In addition to creating choral artistry, we offer a place for young artists in Calgary to share the joys of music-making with others in a similar stage of life.

This performance will be Cantando’s DEBUT PERFORMANCE, we can’t wait to share our voices with you again!

Cantare

Catherine Glaser-Climie, Founder/Artistic Director

Founded in 1997 by Catherine Glaser-Climie, Cantaré Children’s Choir is widely known as one of

Calgary’s premiere performing arts institutions. Nurturing young minds from Kodaly classes at age 3 until

high school graduation and beyond!

Cantaré‘s central tenet: “More Than Music” stresses using collective singing to develop young people

into sensitive, creative, and engaged artists who are passionate justice seekers and informed global

citizens. Singers develop a comprehensive musical foundation at an early age so they can thoughtfully

engage with numerous musical styles from around the world in their youth. Choristers in Cantaré

become comfortable tackling masterworks of the Renaissance, Baroque, and Romantic Periods along

with Contemporary gems - including 18 commissioned works. The choir extensively explores global

political and musical history in rehearsals, connecting a budding worldview with their increasing

sophistication of musical expression. Cantaré’s award-winning program has received a host of accolades

including First Prize in the National Music Festival.

In its vibrant musical community, Cantaré is the proud partner of Calgary Opera and the Calgary

Philharmonic Orchestra, producing over 60 productions with the two companies in the choir’s 26-year

history. The choristers are the Resident Artist of the Field Of Crosses Memorial Project, singing on

GlobalTV’s National Remembrance Day Broadcast every year, and stewarding the Act Of Remembrance

in their communities. Cantaré continues to nurture a network of alumni excellence across the world in

all career fields, our alumni have gone on to represent us and sing together in the National Youth Choir

of Canada, the World Youth Choir, and in a host of amateur and professional choirs across Canada.

Cantaré is our senior touring ensemble for singers aged 12-18. The ensemble has performed across

Canada (Newfoundland, 2011) as well as touring internationally to Austria, Belgium, England, France,

Germany, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, and The United States.
