This time, Gabrieli uses Triple Chorus Writing to stretch out each theme even more than the Double Chorus we saw in the last video!
Notice how these players use a variety of Dynamics to make the same line sound interesting even when it is being played for the third time.
Gabrieli puts lots of Passing Tones in the top and bottom voices in this section. Often times, the lions share of the work for these kinds of melismatic lines go to the top line (in the singers’ case: Sopranos")
Notice how the movement in these long lines helps move the phrase along
2:04 begins a Sequence where parts repeat the same pattern while modulating around the Circle of Fifths. Take note of the same pattern in every voice leading the next voice to their moving notes. The same sequence get's repeated by all 3 choruses at 2:29, listen to the more complex harmony that is made by adding the other voices!
The promised payoff for a triple-choir is almost always a triumphant ending, look at all those lines playing together!
