School Tour - Part II

A Stampede of Schools!! 🤠
To start off DAY TWO of our southwest AB Tour, Cantiga sang for THREE more schools in the Crowsnest Pass, bringing our total up to SIX SCHOOL CONCERTS for the tour! We have sung for over 1000 students in the Southern AB region over these past two days. We love having the opportunity to bring Cantiga into new school communities to spread their joy, skill, and passion for music!

Thank you to Canyon School in Pincher Creek, Isabelle Sellon School in Blairmore, and Horace Allen School in Coleman!

Into The Deep! Touring the Bellevue Mine

A Southwest AB Tour Staple: THE BELLEVUE MINE TOUR

Our touring choristers put on their warm jackets, helmets, and miners lights to journey down into the retired mine site. They had a FANTASTIC guided tour of the facility, learning lots of interesting history about mining safety, the miner’s workday, and the region’s long storied history of mining operations. We even had one special moment where we got to turn our lights off and experience the complete darkness of the mine!!!

Thank you Cantiga for your bravery, curiosity, and enthusiasm on this special stop of the tour

Frank Slide Interpretive Centre

Another signature stop on the Southwest AB Tour: FRANK SLIDE.

On April 29, 1903. Around 44 million cubic metres/110 million tonnes of limestone rock slid down Turtle Mountain. Witnesses reported that within 100 seconds the rock reached up the opposing hills, obliterating the eastern edge of Frank, the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) line and the coal mine. It was one of the largest landslides in Canadian history and remains the deadliest, as between 70 and 90 of the town’s residents died, most of whom remain buried in the rubble.

Cantiga got to participate in their guided experience: THE SCOOP! After watching a short docudrama about the events of the slide, our choristers got their journalism 101 lesson, and uncovered the secrets of Frank Slide. Thank you to all the staff at the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre for sharing your knowledge with us in a wonderful afternoon!

Cantiga Rolls On!

Our touring choristers finished their night off with a visit to Chinook Lanes!

The Glow Lights were on, the jukebox was cranked up to 11, and Cantiga was their usual dancing energetic selves! What a fun night!!
